You want to see and feel the quality of the vehicle you use. That’s why we insist on making every detail of your car perfect in form and function. This is the essence of the new Opel design language expressed in the motto “sculptural artistry meets German precision”.
The new design language builds on a long history of successful Opel design. Opel was the first European automotive company to design and show concept cars, starting with the Experimental GT in 1965. Located in Rüsselsheim, at the very roots of the company, the European Design Center brings together Opel’s three design teams, Exterior, Interior and Advanced, all of which are able to connect with the company’s top engineers to maximize synergies. Some 350 people now work within this growing design function at Rüsselsheim.
At the Exterior Design Studio, innovative ideas become 2D sketches before quickly taking 3D shape in the computers of the alias modelers. Whereas most competitors have the alias modeling team in the engineering department, we have it in design, which is a significant advantage.
The Interior Design studio works closely with the Exterior Design and Engineering teams. It takes care of color and trim, components and the all-round quality and appearance of the cabin.
The Advanced Design Department looks far into the future (more than 4 years). This is where concept car development takes place but it is also where advance design executions are tested. For the example, the Meriva doors were executed in Advanced Design.
Be proud to be seen! By redefining our design vocabulary we have been able to add even more emotion to the Opel brand. The exciting technological advance and thrilling performance of the vehicles is expressed in boldly sculpted forms and fluid shapes, which are accented by crisp intersecting lines.
Unique design features such as the wing and blade shapes highlight the dynamic character of the vehicles. The end result is muscular and sporty, yet very elegant and graceful.
We are giving interior design more thought than ever and taking details such as colors, materials and finishing to new levels of emotion and quality. Expressive exterior design cues are continued inside the stylish wrap-around cockpit.
Here you’ll experience carefully planned ergonomics and high quality materials that are pleasant to the touch yet keep their looks for years. No sharp edges, only perfect joints. Every little detail is thought out for many years of enjoyment.
“A car brand can only win over customers and their brand loyalty – for over 110 years – when it cultivates strong emotional ties,” says Mark Adams, Vice President Opel / Vauxhall Design. Opel’s first design center was established in Rüsselsheim in the 1930s. Since then, Opel has become known for creating well-styled cars with innovative technologies. Here are some of our most influential designs.

*The fuel consumption and CO2 emission figures mentioned are determined according to the NEDC homologation regulations (R (EC) No. 715/2007 and R (EC) No. 692/2008, in the versions respectively applicable), which allows comparability with other vehicles. From 01/09/2017 the fuel consumption and CO2 emission values of certain new vehicles are determined using the new worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), and the relevant values are translated back into NEDC to allow the comparability. Please contact your dealer for the latest information and to check if the values have changed.
** Fuel consumption data and CO2 emission data are determined using the World Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), and the relevant values are translated back to allow the comparability into NEDC, according to regulations R (EC) No. 715/2007, R (EU) No. 2017/1153 and R (EU) No. 2017/1151.
The values do not take into account in particular use, driving conditions, equipment or options, and may vary depending on the format of tires. 2 H gas in m3/100 km. 3 Vehicles with BlueInjection technology will need regular AdBlue® top-ups also in between recommended service intervals. An indicator integrated into the on-board computer will warn you when you need to top up.
As of September 1st 2017, certain new vehicles will be type-approved using the World Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), which is a new, more realistic test procedure for measuring fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. From 1 September 2018 the WLTP will fully replace the New European Drive Cycle (NEDC), which is the current test procedure. Due to more realistic test conditions, the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions measured under the WLTP are in many cases higher compared to those measured under the NEDC.
