Opel has now increased its online rescue data sheets to include 70 different vehicle models from 1991 to the present. The newest models to be included are the Astra GTC, the Corsa LPG, the passenger version of the new Combo and the Zafira Tourer.
The Opel Supervisory Board appointed Alfred Rieck (55) as the new Management Board member in charge of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, effective July 1, 2012. At the same time, he is named Opel/Vauxhall Vice President, Sales, Marketing & Aftersales.
After winning the “Car of the Year 2012” award, the Opel Ampera has now also won the 13. International Monte Carlo Rally for electric cars and alternative propulsion in which it competed for the first time. Four Ampera ranked among the top 10 vehicles. The French duo Bernard Darniche and Joseph Lambert managed to beat the entire competitive field.
For the first time in its history, Opel is providing its award-winning electric cars for the prestigious international Rally Monte Carlo. Six electric Opel Ampera will make their debut in the “Alternative Energy” version of the rally which commences in Annecy-le-Vieux, Clermont-Ferrand and Lugano on March 22 and finishes three days later in the capital of Monaco, Monte Carlo.
The most powerful Astra ever, the Astra OPC, can sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds thanks to its 2.0 liter (206 kW / 280 hp) turbocharged engine. It boasts a top speed of 250 km/h and torque of 400 Nm. Never before has an Astra been so fast. Prices for the Astra OPC start at 34,250 Euro (recommended retail price in Germany incl. VAT).
After the start of deliveries to customers, the Opel Ampera has won two prizes in the “10th Internet Auto Award” sponsored by the AutoScout24 website. The Ampera scored an overall victory by winning in the segment “most popular car newcomer in Europe” and in the category “electric vehicles”.
The Opel/Vauxhall CEO, Karl-Friedrich Stracke, has sent a message of optimism at the news conference of this year’s Geneva Motor Show (6-18 March). “2012 is a very special year for Opel,” Stracke said, referring to the brand’s 150th anniversary, its new model launches and its technological leadership.
Geneva. The Opel Ampera and the Chevrolet Volt have today won the “Car of the Year 2012” award. By handing victory to the revolutionary electric vehicles, the panel of judges, made up of 59 leading automotive journalists from 23 European nations, paid tribute to General Motor’s innovative foresight.
