The cornerstone of the new Zafira’s safety system, the safety cage features computer-optimised crumple zones and a rigid passenger cell. This minimizes mechanical deformation in an accident and preserves a large survival area.
When regular brake force is applied, the Zafira’s brake lights are lit as normal. If the driver brakes hard enough to activate the ABS, ABL illuminates an extra area within the rear lights, thus warning following vehicles that heavy braking is in process.
This ingenious system recognises when you apply pressure abruptly to the brakes and builds up brake pressure more quickly as a result. So, in an emergency situation, maximum brake pressure is reached earlier and your stopping distance is greatly reduced.
The new Zafira features enhanced Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS). The parameter-controlled EHPS ensures easy manoeuvring when parking and it ensures both excellent grip and outstanding steering precision at higher speeds.
The deflation detection system works without specific sensors, identifying pressure loss through changes in the rolling radius of the tyres by using the car’s ABS sensors to measure changes in wheel speed brought on by a sudden reduction in tyre size. A warning light illuminates in the event of a rapid tyre deflation. Available as part of the Towing Pack.
Using pressure sensors, this option prevents activation of passenger front and side airbags when no occupant is detected in the front passenger seat. If a baby cradle or a child seat with transponder is placed on the passenger seat, the airbag unit automatically deactivates.
Opel's optional Active Head-restraint system is activated by upper body pressure during a collision, causing the head restraints to move forward and upward to reduce the risk of a neck injury.
Zafira’s projection-free, elegant and imposing frontal styling incorporates a state-of-the-art Pedestrian Protection System. This system features impact-absorbing foam padding within the bodywork and controlled deformation to minimise potential pedestrian impact injuries.
In the event of airbags or seat-belt tensioners being activated due to an accident, the doors are automatically unlocked and the hazard warning flasher is activated. This helps to avoid follow-up collisions and warns other road users of a serious hazard.
