The availability of intelligent chassis features - like anti-lock brakes with Emergency Brake Assist (EBD) which optimises brake forces, Dynamic SAfety (DSA) suspension, electronic stability programme and traction control – adds the sort of active safety you would expect from Opel.
Standard on all Meriva models, the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) has been shown to help reduce stopping distances, particularly on slippery road surfaces. By preventing the wheels from locking up, ABS also allows drivers to retain control of the steering and helps prevent vehicle instability during emergency braking.
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), available as part of the Protection pack, helps you maintain full control of the car during adverse or emergency conditions. If it begins to slide, ESP gently applies corrective braking to the appropriate road wheel to help you regain control. Traction Control (TC), which helps reduce wheelspin during acceleration is available as part of the Protection pack.
Meriva’s Dynamic Safety suspension helps to eliminate the inherent tendency to veer sideways if you brake with your front wheels on different surfaces – like wet and dry tarmac. And it does it automatically too!
You don’t need a family to appreciate Meriva’s many passive safety features. Every model comes with twin front airbags and Opel’s patented pedal release system that reduces the risk of injury to the lower legs and a third rear safety belt. All three rear seats come with adjustable head restraints and lap and diaganol seatbelts. And if you’d like even more safety, simply choose the optional Protection pack.
In a major frontal impact, Meriva’s clutch pedal and lightweight brake pedal are designed to come away from their mountings, helping reduce foot and lower leg injuries.
Every Meriva is fitted with ISOFIX child seat restraint fittings on both outer rear seats, with front passenger seat fittings optional as part of the Protection pack.
Used in conjunction with Opel accessory child safety seats, the rigid ISOFIX anchoring mechanism virtually eliminates the dangers that can result from incorrect child seat installation. The Opel ISOFIX child seats simply click into the mounting points engineered into the car.
