All-round safety protection on new Astra Sport Hatch
The safety features available on new Astra Sport Hatch incorporate a range of active and passive safety measures to ensure you’re protected on all sides. The safety features are based on the interaction of all the Astra Sport Hatch’s standard safety features, the main element being the extremely rigid passenger cell. In the event of an accident, mechanical deformation is minimized and the largest possible survival area preserved.
In addition to the front airbags, the Astra Sport Hatch has enlarged side airbags to protect the thorax and pelvis, as well as curtain airbags, for the driver and front passenger.
In the event of a serious accident, Opel’s patented Pedal Release System (PRS) decouples the clutch and brake pedals, reducing the risk of injury to the feet and lower leg.
Clearly, accident prevention is the best form of passenger protection. That’s why the Astra Sport Hatch boasts an array of active safety features to help you avoid dangerous situations.
The Deflation Detection System, available as part of the Driver Control Pack, detects deflation of tires by using wheel speed sensor information. In case of deflation, the diameter of the wheel is reduced – resulting in faster rotation during driving. This difference is then evaluated by the DDS software and if the pressure on one wheel drops off by 30% of the nominal pressure, a warning lamp is activated.
IDS (Interactive Driving System) is based on the perfect interaction between the chassis and electronically-supported chassis control systems. Optional ESP-plus (Electronic Stability Programme) with integrated Traction Control stabilizes the vehicle by carefully braking up to three wheels to compensate understeer or oversteer situations.
If an accident does happen, you want to know that you and your passengers are well protected. The Astra Sport Hatch offers a range of passive safety features designed to do just that.

This optional state-of-the-art technology senses if the front passenger seat is occupied and informs and enables the front passenger seat airbag system accordingly. It also automatically recognises the presence of a sensor equipped child seat.
